Alaya

Ceramic Basket

The Alaya Ceramic Baskets are a set of large centre pieces made in slip casted ceramics in a family run workshop in North of Venice. Each basket is glazed from all sides thanks to an innovative way of glazing and firing. The Alaya Ceramic Baskets’ prominent feature are the strong circular handles bringing back the memory of age-old baskets woven in bamboo appearing in various Asian cultures.

The design of Alaya Ceramic Baskets is a continuity of the early experimental work by Satyendra Pakhalé with a tribe in Central India using the technique of lost wax casting process intending to bring back a sensorial quality to a contemporary object. These experimentations evolved further into various industrial and artisanal processes and materials such as stainless steel, industrial bent glass, bronze and meaning impregnated sensual material like ceramics.
