Buhri
Carpet Collection
Bhuri, a word that means “earth” in the Pāli language, is a refined collection of hand-tufted carpets created for Cappellini by Satyendra Pakhalé. Rooted in a deep connection with nature, this collection embodies its most authentic artistic expression, transforming organic inspiration into sophisticated textile art.
The Bhuri Collection carpets originate from a series of unique aquarelles painted by Pakhalé himself, inspired by the fundamental elements of nature: water, air, and earth. The multifaceted designer has cultivated a daily practice of painting watercolours on Pondicherry handmade cotton rag paper using just one brush. Within these self-imposed limits – basic tools, and a single truncated brush – the idea is to focus on the practice of ‘thinking through abstraction’. This approach explores the delicate balance between intention and spontaneity, resulting in abstract compositions that are transformed into exclusive, poetic, and visually striking carpets.
