Multifaceted artist-designer Satyendra Pakhalé has cultivated a daily practice of painting a watercolour on Pondicherry handmade cotton rag paper using just one brush. Within these self-imposed limits – basic tools, and a single truncated brush – the idea is to focus on the practice of ‘thinking through abstraction’. In his aquarelles, we can follow a process of free exploration; watch the realm of ‘poetic analogies’ taking shape, and glimpse the form of a specific work emerging from them. These aquarelle art works illustrates Pakhalé’s daily habit of letting go of the control of the rational mindset and surrendering instead to intuition and unconscious foresight.
The Satyendra Pakhalé Archives Amsterdam contains among other works, several elaborately drawn portraits in pen and ink as well as several spontaneous studies made on restaurant paper mats and napkins. From these archives, the selected unique aquarelles are now edited in a small series of 7. Each art work is an expression of the artist’s daily practice formatted in a high definition limited series on a ‘Hahnemuhle Museum etching 350 gm’ acid free art paper, signed and numbered by the artist with certificate of authenticity.
